Africa

Actis has been operating in Africa for over half a century and has invested across multiple countries and sectors. Involving much more than just funding, Actis is committed to building world class profitable companies in the region, thereby helping them contribute to the healthy development of the local economies.
When Actis invests, our people get actively involved to support the board and management to develop the investee business. Our partner companies benefit from our global insight and expertise, our longstanding relationships with government and influential decision-makers, our ability to structure complex transactions and to create and realise shareholder value. Our investee businesses can draw not only on the collective experience of our 38 strong African team based in four offices on the continent and in London, but also on the expertise of our 100+ investment professionals across the world.
Our investment strategy is flexible to address the particular needs of each business that we back and its owners. We invest in diverse situations that might include:
- funding the growth of an established business - whether public or private - either organically or through acquisition
- acquiring ownership from a family or privately-owned company to assist with succession planning and with professionalising and institutionalising such businesses
- enabling management teams to buy a company or non-core division from its existing owners
- privatisations and similar transfers of ownership of state-owned assets to the private sector
- funding high quality agribusiness, infrastructure and real estate projects
