China National Offshore Oil Company (CNOOC) is one of the world's largest oil and gas exploration and production companies and is listed on the Hong Kong and New York stock exchanges.
Incorporated in 1982, CNOOC was set-up by the Chinese State Council with the mandate to explore and develop China's offshore oil and natural gas resources through cooperation with foreign partners. It was the first company of its kind with the Chinese Government encouraging overseas investment.
