“I believe the world doesn’t suffer from a lack of heroes, but a lack of stages for them to act on. At Actis I have found a stage that supports great investments in China, while nurturing investment professionals.”
For Dong, Actis provides a unique investment environment; created not only by its expertise in investing in Chinese companies but through the firm-wide knowledge sharing that has helped young investment professionals like her become seasoned players.
In 2001, Dong joined CDC as an associate from the Beijing International Trust and Investment Corporation where she was involved in managing its quoted company investment portfolio. At that time, few people knew anything about private equity. But more than a decade on, Dong has evolved a host of deals including Meng Niu, China Wolfberry, Highland and WSP. She is part of a Beijing-based team that has grown from four to 16 investment specialists and has originated three buy-out deals including China’s most popular hotpot chain Xiabu Xiabu.
Dong has more than 20 years investment experience and holds an MBA from Manchester Business School and a bachelor's degree in politics from the China Youth Politics Institute.
