“In 2007, Actis was the only serious institution with the foresight to be investing private equity into the African real estate market.”
Born and raised in Nairobi, Koome joined Actis in 2007, initially based in London before moving to Johannesburg and then on to Nairobi, where he originates and manages Actis’ East African real estate investments. Koome has managed a number of transformative developments including Garden City, the $540m retail, residential and commercial property development in Nairobi.
A passion for real estate investing and Actis’ edge in the space drew Koome to the firm. “Actis was the only serious institution with the foresight to be investing private equity into the Africa real estate market.” Actis’ strategy and strong fundamentals paired with the opportunity to meet the growing demand for international standard office and retail space across the continent inspired Koome to make the move from investment banking.
Prior to Actis, Koome worked as an investment banker with JP Morgan in New York.
Koome graduated from Stanford University with a degree in Management Science and Engineering where he was a Ford Foundation Scholar. He has an MBA with Distinction from Oxford University where he was awarded the Wafic Said Scholarship. He is also an alumnus of Aiglon College in Switzerland and Starehe Boys Center in Kenya.
