Education for life
In China, there exists a deep rooted cultural belief that education offers the stepping stone to a better life. This tradition has been reinforced by the one child policy of the last 30 years. The future success of the child becomes the collective focus of the parents, and often both sets of grandparents.

Ambow is a provider of personalised education and training services in China. China’s private educational services industry is a young, fragmented and defensive sector undergoing rapid structural change. As a market leader with a strong national brand, Ambow capitalises on the increasing demand for high quality private education and career training services in China.

Founded in 2000, by Silicon Valley veteran Dr. Jin Huang, Ambow has built its school network both by partnering with existing schools, and by operating its own schools to provide education services that complement the national curriculum. For middle school students, Ambow offers the chance to gain a vital, competitive edge in the race for university admission – ‘Better Schools’. For students interested in vocational training, it focuses on developing skills to improve employment and career prospects – ‘Better Jobs’.

Since Actis’s investment in 2008, Ambow has grown its network across China and has strengthened its governance reporting. Ambow listed on the New York Stock Exchange in August 2010; it is using the funds generated to develop its educational content, upgrade its existing facilities, and further expand its footprint within China.
