Actis, the emerging markets private equity investor, has announced the appointment of Meb Somani as Head of Oil and Gas, based in London. He was previously Managing Director at the leading oil and gas corporate finance advisory boutique Harrison Lovegrove & Co, where he advised clients on acquisitions and divestments valued at several billion dollars mostly in Africa and Asia.

Prior to that, Mr Somani spent twenty years at Shell and Texaco in various commercial and operational roles in Europe, Middle East, Central and South East Asia. He has a first class honours degree in Petroleum Engineering from Imperial College London and an MBA from Henley Management College.

Commenting on the appointment, Actis Chief Investment Officer Alistair Mackintosh said "The oil and gas sector is particularly important given the wealth of natural resources in emerging markets, and we are delighted to have found someone with Meb's wealth of knowledge and experience to help us develop our investments in this area."

Mr Somani will be responsible for growing oil and gas investments in all Actis markets, and will initially divide his time between Africa and SE Asia.
