Alberto Estefan, Managing Director, Energy Infrastructure at Actis, spoke to Mergermarket about the firm’s strategy to acquire mid-market renewable energy platforms across Latin America.

Alberto told Mergermarket that Actis is seeking acquisition targets in Brazil, Mexico, and the Andean region, where it sees significant growth potential in the renewables space. The firm targets mid-market platforms it can scale through add-on acquisitions, typically comprising between five and 15 renewable power plants, with investment horizons of four to seven years. He also confirmed plans to launch a new renewables platform in Chile through the acquisition of brownfield assets, while noting that Actis has no short-term plans to exit Mexico’s Valia Energía or Brazil’s Serena Energy.

Alberto Estefan, Managing Director, Energy Infrastructure at Actis, commented:

“Our sweet spot is around USD 1bn at the time of exit. We target mid-market platforms that we can scale through add-on acquisitions, but that do not become so large that exiting becomes difficult.”

“We see significant growth potential in Latin America’s renewable space, and we have already identified potential acquisition targets across Brazil, Mexico, and the Andean region.”
