The National Stock Exchange of India (‘NSE’) is a symbol of a new India; an India of wealth and possibilities. Its steel-and-glass home in Mumbai’s new commercial district speaks of a country that is on the move.

With a 98% market share, the NSE is India’s leading stock exchange (the Bombay Stock Exchange has a 2% share), and has always been at the forefront of the modernisation of India’s capital and financial markets. The NSE dominates the expanding derivatives market and controls the majority of the cash market. In addition, it has strong leadership and incorporates good risk management and corporate governance.

In 2007, Actis invested alongside NYSE, Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley and Citi, for a combined 26% stake. The invitation for Actis to participate was a sign of Actis’ prominent position in the Indian private equity market and in emerging markets.

Actis realised its investment in 2015 to New Quest Capital Partners.
