Plantas Eolicas SRL (PESRL)
Pioneering utility-scale wind farm
Plantas Eolicas SRL (PESRL) is a 23 MW operating wind farm in Costa Rica. The project was the first utility-scale wind farm built in Latin America, starting operations in 1994 and was until recently the largest wind farm in Costa Rica.
PESRL sells 100% of its output under a long-term Power Purchase Agreement with the state-owned utility, Instituto Costarricense de Electridad.
PESRL is operated by Globeleq Mesoamerica Energy (GME). Actis invested for a controlling stake in GME in 2010. GME currently has four power generation plants in operation: PESRL and Orosi in Costa Rica, Eolo in Nicaragua and Cerro de Hula in Honduras.
