Industry intelligence service, A Word About Wind, names Lucy Heintz amongst the most influential players in the global wind energy sector.

This is the second consecutive year that Lucy has received this industry accolade, ranking at number 50, underlining her influence in building the renewable energy industry of the future. The independent report measures the individual influence of key players in the wind energy sector, charting their impact on the industry over the past year. Each candidate was assessed, rated and ranked by an impartial senior advisory board.

With a background in development finance, Lucy joined Actis in 2007, where she currently has responsibility for Actis’ renewable energy activities globally, as well as being Responsible Investment Partner for the Energy fund. Heintz notably drove the firm’s Latin America renewable energy strategy, which resulted in the creation of four renewable energy platforms active in wind: Zuma Energía, Aela Energia, Atlantic Energias Renováveis and the newest, Echoenergia.

She is also investment manager and board member of Lekela, a pan-African renewables platform with wind assets in South Africa, Egypt, Ghana and Senegal. As such she was responsible for taking Lekela into Egypt to secure a 250MW project in 2015.  Meanwhile in India, Actis invested in the wind specialist Ostro Energy. Overall, the firm has 4.9GW of installed and contracted wind capacity.

While Actis is technologically agnostic, investing in wind, solar, gas and hydro power, Heintz has shown that renewables is often the logical choice. And as an indication of her success, the fourth energy fund, which closed in March, raised $2.75 billion and was significantly oversubscribed.

“Lucy has been instrumental in demonstrating that renewable energy simply makes commercial sense in growth markets,” said Mikael Karlsson, co-head of the Energy business at Actis.
