Michael Harrington, Managing Director and Chief Investment Officer at Actis, commented:

“I can say that the next six months look promising. I think there’s plenty to be excited about from an Actis perspective.

“We invest globally across growth markets in sustainable infrastructure through our teams on the ground at our 17 offices. Since inception, we’ve invested $22 billion in more than 60 markets and are deeply embedded in the markets we operate in.

“We’re not tourists. Our investment professionals in-region have local and sector expertise, with strong networks and relationships, and this is crucial in unlocking opportunities for investment and exit. To take one example from an important market for us – there are very few deals in the Mexican energy space that wouldn’t come across our desk. Being deeply rooted across the key markets in Latin America, Asia, the Middle East and Africa, and Central and Eastern Europe means we have a strong understanding of what we believe represents good value and can help access exciting investment opportunities.

“I’m very encouraged by our pipeline. The long and short of it is that dynamism in the global economy is largely coming from growth markets, driven by industrialization, urbanization and growing wealth, as well as the decarbonization and digitalization trends also affecting developed economies. All taken together, this is creating significant demand for infrastructure. And because infrastructure in these markets is under-supplied by global capital, with only one-fifth of the investment in clean energy despite the fact these economies account for over 80 percent of global energy demand growth for example, our view is that this imbalance is creating a lot of interesting opportunities for investors.

“We continue to see a steady flow of opportunities in growth markets infrastructure. Actis invests across long life infrastructure, energy infrastructure, real estate and digital infrastructure, so our pipeline covers a broad spectrum of infrastructure investments in these markets.”
