Ewen joined Actis in 2017 as a Senior Advisor after a career in investment banking and asset management. Ewen acts as Editor-in-Chief for our Macro Forum: The Street View publication helping to lead and shape internal investment debate and external communication with clients and other stakeholders.

As Director of Research in Asia for SG Warburg in the 1990’s Ewen helped develop one of the leading Pan Asian investment research teams of the time and was an Institutional Investor rated Investment Strategist. He then switched to asset management leading Mercury Asset Management’s Emerging Market Equity team and was twice rated investment manager of the year by Investment Week. After Mercury was acquired by Merrill Lynch and then subsequently by Blackrock, he became Head of Multi Asset investing.

In 2011 Ewen helped found the Blackrock Investment Institute, a global knowledge sharing initiative. In this role he led investment debate for the world’s largest investment manager, developing mechanisms for sharing information and addressing investment issues between colleagues across all geographies and asset classes. His role as Chief Investment Strategist involved constant communication of ideas to Blackrock’s clients, employees and the media.

Following retirement in 2016 he joined Actis as a senior advisor to the Executive Committee. He sits on several endowment investment committees, and is a non-executive director of Schroder Income Growth plc.

Ewen graduated in Modern History from Oxford University.
