James is a Principal in Actis’ Sustainability team, with over 20 years of experience in sustainability, primarily serving the private equity, banking, and development finance sectors. He works closely with investment colleagues and company management teams to create sustainability leaders and to enhance investment value. James chairs several of the board Sustainability Committees across the portfolio, as well as sitting on Actis’ Risk Committee and spent four years as a member of the UN PRI’s Infrastructure Steering Committee from 2021 to 2024.

James joined Actis in January 2016 and previously spent three years at British International Investment (BII), formerly CDC Group plc, where he supported the private equity team with investments in the power generation and distribution, agribusiness, healthcare and FMCG sectors in Africa and Asia. Prior to BII, James spent eight years with Environ (now part of Ramboll) in the International Finance team, advising a wide variety of clients across several major industrial sectors including power generation, oil & gas, and petrochemical industries across Europe, Africa, and Asia. He holds an MSc Applied Meteorology & Climatology and a BSc Geography from the University of Birmingham.
