When Alistair joined Actis in 2004, he was coming off a highly successful career in the developed markets. Attracted to the dynamism and huge economic potential of the growth markets, he was intent on discovering new opportunities in Africa, Latin America, South Asia and South East Asia.

Alistair chairs the Investment Committee and Portfolio Review Committee of the Actis Private Equity, Energy and Real Estate funds.

Alistair has been in private equity for over 25 years, first at 3i and then at PPM Capital, the private equity business of Prudential plc. High-profile deals which he has led include the MBI of UK gaming group Gala, the buy-out of TMF Group, a leading global management and accounting outsourcing business in the Netherlands and the buy-and-build deals that created Australian Envelopes.

Alistair believes that Actis’ on-the-ground understanding is what propels its success. He enjoys working with smart, insightful professionals, and shaping the way deals are fashioned for better returns as well as development.

Alistair holds an MBA from Cass Business School in London and a BSc in Engineering from Aberdeen University.
